Being an athlete as a woman is one of the hardest things to do. For starters, their jobs are viewed as easier because they are women (if you think this you can go fuck yourself and don’t read my articles). The salary gap between women and men in sports is comically funny. They play the same damn sport and work just as hard if not harder than men. Give them the money and respect they deserve. They shouldn’t have to fight for better salaries or screen time because they earned it by becoming a professional in their respective field.
Although 2020 was a horrible year that was derailed by a global pandemic some women said fuck it and broke barriers that were unheard of, and for that I say congrad-u-fuckin-lations.
Sarah Fuller is a Division I goalie for Purdue’s women’s soccer team. Winning a national title with her team wasn’t enough for her though. She decided that it was time to show off her talents on the football field. Never has a woman scored points in a game for a Power 5 team in the NCAA. Sarah Fuller decided that she would be the first and she hit an extra point with ease (NFL teams take notes to cause half the kickers in your league are dog water and would probably strike out in a second-grade kickball game).
Next up we have Becky Hammon. Hammon was hired by the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach in 2014. She became the second female assistant coach and the first female full-time assistant coach in NBA history. She broke records by being the first female head coach in a summer league game but that wasn’t enough. During a regular-season game this year Father Time, Greg Papovich, was ejected and she took over coaching duties in his absence.
Although this isn’t sports-related I would be a fraud to not mention the incredible feat by Kamala Harris for becoming the first-ever female Vice President. I probably shouldn’t say this but we’re all thinking she’ll probably become the first-ever female president too because there is no shot that Biden is still going to be alive in 4 years. The man is a stroke waiting to happen. That being said, Good shit Kamala.
Now I know this happened in 2019 but I’m including it anyway. Sarah Thomas became the first-ever full-time NFL official and was the first-ever female official to cover a playoff game. I honestly think all NFL officials should be fired and replaced with women. Hear me out, their investigative skills are unmatched and when a guy does something wrong females are always there to call them out. With all-female officials, I feel there would be less blown calls and better officiating in general.
Instead of hating on women, we should embrace them. They work too damn hard to make it big just for some keyboard warrior with an anime profile picture to hate on them. We hyping up Girl Power in 2021 and for the rest of time. I’ll always support females because they have it harder than most and need our support just like anyone else.
