Monday Morning Centerback: EPL
We have all watched the fixtures over the weekend and wondered why certain decisions are made. Whether it’s a VAR decision, a certain substitution, or even just a pass that was played, we all wonder: Why? In this new series, I am going to break down some key decisions and adjustments during the match week and give you my thoughts about how each fixture played out. These are my thoughts, deal with it. Wah wah. Shut up.
Aston Villa 2 v Manchester City 1
Let’s start with the elephant in the room. Manchester City are in the dumps right now. It is like these guys completely forgot how to play football. I think these guys are coping with a very underperforming defense and they are afraid to get forward. The defensive players seem to be made out of paper. With the exception of Josko Gvardiol, the rest of them can’t make it a full 90 without some sort of injury. I don’t understand. And every team they go up against seem to know that. Either that or City’s defenders are playing injured. City desperately need to bring someone in during this January window. As to who, I have no idea. They need a lot of help at the moment. The only guys that seem to care are Foden, Haaland and Dias, rest are kind of just out there trying to survive. Go and get me Wirtz please Mr Pep. Big props to Villa. I knew City being favored made no sense. Villa need to change nothing.
Brentford 0 v Nottingham Forest 2
This game had so much potential to be great. It was back and forth the entire game. But Forest came out on top. They were just more clinical in the box. Forest secured a spot in the top 4 before Christmas and they look impressive. Brentford were undefeated at home this season and they just lacked a net front presence. They are definitely missing Ivan Toney so I think that Brentford need to go out in January and sign a player that will consistently find the back of the net. Forest could probably use some defensive help to just solidify a top 4 charge in the second half of the season. Hats off to Forest, they just need to keep feeding Chris Wood.
West Ham 1 v Brighton & Hove Albion 1
What did I tell you guys? This game was a stinker. Ok, yes both teams had a decent amount of shots on target but nothing to rave about. If you read my other series, I told you that if I was a betting man, I said that I could see both teams scoring in this match if they could get shots on target. 1-1 final. Wanker. I really don’t know what West Ham need to change. Their lineup is decent. They really need a new striker in my opinion. They signed Niclas Fullkrug from Dortmund this summer but the guy is slower than Chris Wood and he’s like 45 years old. Or at least moves like it. If it was up to me, I would go after a guy like Jonathan David this winter. His contract with Lille in the French league is up summer 2025 anyway, so Lille may be willing to cash in on a young player that will probably be a free agent in the summer anyway. Brighton are in the same boat. They need more attacking threats. Their top scorer this season so far is 50 year old Danny Welbeck with 6 in the Premier League. If they can get a guy that can feed Joao Pedro in the middle, they should be on their way to another top 10 finish in the table this year.
Leicester City 0 v Wolverhampton 3
Hand up, Wolves got the new manager bump. You win this round Wolves. But I’m not moved by this performance. These are the teams that you are supposed to beat. Congratulations.
Manchester United 0 v Bournemouth 3
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. These guys thought Ruben Amorim was going to take over after they sacked ten Hag and do well? These guys thought Ruben Amorim was going to take over with the same exact squad of players as ten Hag and do well? It’s actually not the same exact squad to be fair. Amorim is exiling Manchester United’s longest tenured player and the face of the club, Marcus Rashford because of what? His training? His attitude? Give me a break man. Dogged at home by Bournemouth. 13th in the league. Is anyone still dancing in the locker room on Snapchat boys? You guys still having fun? These guys are lost. Sell Harry Maguire, sell Johnny Evans, sell Casemiro and bring in some real footballers man. Get real. As a City fan, please keep doing what you’re doing. Losers.
Tottenham 3 v Liverpool 6
This game was incredible. Liverpool, piss off. Spurs, you’re the one we need to talk about. This team man, how terrible. They need to sell all their players, fire Ange, change the team name, knock down Hotspur Stadium, and completely start over. I really do not know what is wrong with this club. Maybe they need new owners or something. But it is just a constant cycle of embarrassment every year. Put their fans out of their misery. End the season. Call it quits. They are on the same level of embarrassment as Manchester United. Bad bad company to be in. It is quite sad if I am being honest. Ever since Harry Kane left Spurs I had high hopes for the club. But this is low. Waste of time, do not watch until further notice. Unless they sign Marcus Rashford. Greener pastures?
