EPL Unfiltered: Week 23
What a week 22, ladies and gentlemen. These Premier League teams are really starting to show their true colors now that there is one more match week left in January. Bournemouth showed that they can hang with the big dogs, Liverpool asserted their dominance against Brentford, Manchester City turned back the clock for once and scored at will against Ipswich, and Manchester United are heading for implosion. What a wonderful sight to see. No early game for us state side enjoyers. Five 10:00 games. We ride.

Bournemouth v Nottingham Forest | 10:00am EST
This game right here. Let me tell you. If this game was a couple of seasons ago, I would have told you that it would be an absolute snooze fest. But this season, I will be one hundred percent watching. And you should too.
Liverpool v Ipswich Town | 10:00am EST
Ipswich Town look competent challenge. Level: At Anfield.
Southampton v Newcastle | 10:00am EST
Southampton are not a Premier League team. I have been saying this since their promotion last season. I knew that they were going to be terrible this year. I don’t care about their signings. I am not moved. Sitting at 1-3-18 on the season, with a whopping six points, it is almost certain that they will be playing Championship football again next season. They are a dumpster fire. The only team that they have beaten this season was Everton. Shocking, I know. Not. Everton is just the blue version of Southampton. Not surprising at all. Newcastle will use this game as a training session and probably win by six. Southampton are due for their annual womping in the league and it may be this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised. Isak will get back on track and they will be alright after their loss last week.
Wolverhampton v Arsenal- 10:00am EST
What a gross game. The most overrated team in Europe against a team that has lost all of my respect and they deserve to be in League One. Arsenal have no attack. Wolves have no attack. The last time these teams played, Arsenal cruised to a 2-0 win and it was an absolute snooze fest. I expect Arsenal to have the same exact mindset for this fixture as well. Control the ball, limit the counter-attack, and put the audience to sleep. The usual stuff. Aura FC things, you know. Those guys just out there for the vibes. Disgusting football. Say something nice about Wolves challenge: Matheus Cunha will look great in a different teams uniform next season, or possibly before this window closes.
Manchester City v Chelsea | 12:30pm EST
Finally. The main event for the evening. A classic blue blood rivalry tilt. A very one-sided rivalry if I may add. Chelsea have not beaten Manchester City since May 2021, 2-1. That’s a long time. When these two played in August, believe it or not, City won the game and kept a clean sheet. Very weird thing to write after these recent months. Right now, Chelsea sit two points above City in the league table. Chelsea have not been very convincing as of late. Not that City has. But with both sides not winning like usual, anything could happen. With a win, City will reclaim a spot in the top four in the table. Also, they will have all three of their new January signings available for selection for this game. But Chelsea do have 50 senior players on their books that they could tap into. So, it can go either way. But we’re Manchester City. This is where we shine. It is time to put the league on notice.

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City | 9:00am EST
It is very easy to kick a team when they are down. Especially a team like Tottenham Hotspur. So let’s do it some more. 24 points from 22 games so far this season, and a comfortable seat in 15th place. Wow. I knew this squad was bad, but I did not think that they would be this bad. Horrendous actually. With losses to Arsenal and then to Everton last weekend, a loss on Sunday would just be the icing on the cake for this Spurs team. They would be officially cooked. Done. They will be in the same area of banter with Manchester United. Just an observation, these guys have nothing. Their manager will be fire either before the season ends or when it ends. It has to be it for big Ange. As soon as he made that comment about usually winning trophies in his second season, I would have fired him on the spot. This team has zero history of winning anything. Place that guy in the looney bin. Leicester will definitely put up a fight in this match. These teams drew in August and I am definitely expecting one side to come out on top this time around. It is just a matter of who wants it more. Leicester need to start getting some results to get out of the relegation zone and a struggling and depressed Spurs may be the perfect side to hand them some points.
Aston Villa v West Ham United | 11:30am EST
I have been seeing some links of West Ham checking in on the availability of Lille’s Jonathan David. And if you’re a real one, I have been saying this for weeks. Get these guys a real striker. They have the attacking potential and especially now with Graham Potter at the helm, this system demands a natural goal scorer. Kudus and Paqueta can’t do it along, definitely not without Bowen. I really don’t know what to make of this Villa season. Every time I back them, they lose. Every time I go against them, I look like a moron. So I don’t know. West Ham are not very good at the moment, they concede a lot of goals, and they have no threat in front of goal. All the signs point towards Villa winning comfortably. Take the over and don’t even watch. I’ll watch for you.
Fulham v Manchester United | 2:00pm EST
That brings us to the finale of the weekend. Big bad Manchester United taking a visit to Craven Cottage to face Fulham. By the way, Fulham may be the best team in London. There I said it. But, United have their number. Four out of the last five have gone United’s way. Antony is currently completing a loan move to Real Betis, Garnacho is flirting and shaking ass for Chelsea and possibly Napoli, and their “star boy” Marcus Rashford can’t even get on the pitch if he paid the club to play. 7-5-10 on the season, United will be desperate for a win. And the only thing standing in their way is a UTDtrey post on X. If you know, you know. If this guy posts anything about this match, take the exact opposite to happen. Fulham will make this competitive. I expect them to go up early and then just defend with their lives. But maybe they wont have to try that bad since the attack will be coming from guys like Hojlund and Zirkzee. The Fulham defense should be able to manage that. A back line of seven five year olds could manage that task. Sad and pathetic club Manchester United have become.
