Monday Morning Centerback: EPL Week 20

Monday Morning Centerback: EPL Week 20

Seven games on Saturday, two games on Sunday, one on Monday and then a little break in the Premier League for some Cup fixtures next weekend so no Premier League games until 1/14. So this will be the last one until then. Citypool, talk to me.

Tottenham- 1 v Newcastle United- 2

Someone check in on Ange, Spurs manager. Does he regret saying that he usually wins trophies in his second season with clubs? Does he realize that managing Spurs is a different kind of task to deal with? I mean, in a must win match, this guy puts Heung-Min Son and James Maddison starting on the bench. Spurs did start the game by scoring the first goal after just four minutes BUT, gave up the equalizer after two minutes with the lead. And then gave Newcastle the lead just before the halfway in the 38th minute to the inevitable Isak. To be fair to Tottenham, they have so many injuries on their back line so the game was kind of against them from the start. They started Archie Gray in the back four to make my point. Spurs need to probably bring in some sort of defender and possibly a keeper capable of holding the line while Vicario is out with injury.

Manchester City- 4 v West Ham United- 1

What did I tell you all? Do not let Manchester City get hot. What have I been saying? Manchester City’s season starts in January. And they started January with a big boom. Also, I just want to say that I have constantly roasted Fullkrug and it seems like I have been got after he scored a meaningless goal for West Ham on Saturday. But I am not moved. You can’t fool me. Once again, I will not take West Ham seriously until they sign a real striker. Sorry. Oh and also, I would just like to thank UTDtrey on X. That man unlocked City starboy Savinho. I’ll link the post. Cheers buddy. Go get me a midfielder City. Much appreciated.

Aston Villa- 2 v Leicester City- 1

This match was closer than it should have been. If Villa want to be taken seriously as a top club in the Premier League again, they need to start taking care of business against the teams that you’re supposed to beat. This one wasn’t pretty. But they got the job done in the end. Villa move to 9-5-6 on the season, now in 8th place and they have somewhat of an easy run of games inn the league in the coming weeks. I see Villa climbing in the table without any trouble. If Villa can bring in a fresh midfielder in January, I think they will be alright the rest of the way. Leicester, you’re going down.

Crystal Palace- 1 v Chelsea- 1

For a while there, Chelsea actually fooled us. They kept winning games and they continued to tell the media that they were not in a title race. Turns out, they were right. They kind of stink. Zero wins in their last four in the league, only two points. Tied Everton, lost to Fulham and Ipswich, and then tied Palace. Their billion dollar squad is slowing down? But they have 30 senior players, just rotate the squad. Womp womp. I don’t feel bad for them. Palace actually fought well in this match. It hasn’t been the start they wanted this season but I feel like if they can get someone that can compliment Eze, they should start seeing more results go their way.

Brighton and Hove Albion- 1 v Arsenal- 1

The almighty Arsenal went to Brighton and put out a lineup with three center backs and four defensive midfielders with Trossard, Jesus and an 18 year old. And they almost got away with it. Mikel Arteta you will pay for your crimes against football my friend. I don’t want to say Arsenal fans deserve this. But they deserve it. They celebrated when Havertz tore Rodri’s ACL and they constantly celebrate opponents injuries. I’m keeping notes. Get used to 2nd place pal, Liverpool is going 11 clear soon. Brighton, sign some good attackers and stop drawing games.

Liverpool- 2 v Manchester United- 2

Wow. What a game. The only bad part of this game was the fact that it was down pouring instead of snow that came down. If this game was a snow game, it would be an instant classic. It was a very stinky first half of football to watch. The players seemed like they did not want to be there at all. It was probably so damn cold on that pitch that I do not blame them. But then United opened up the scoring and quieted down the Liverpool supporters. But it only took seven minutes for a Liverpool response through Cody Gakpo and then another ten for a Liverpool penalty from Mo Salah. Ahmad Diallo found the net for the equalizer in the 80th minute to set up some must watch football for the final 15 or so minutes. The only crime that was committed was forcing Italian Federico Chiesa to sit in this cold rain for 90 minutes, you can’t do that to an Italian. The relegation battle is knocking on your door United. Find some help somewhere.
