Monday Morning Center Back: Week 25
Before we get into it, let’s just take a moment here and hold a moment of silence for Manchester United’s season (1 minute pause). Well, as a direct rival I am ecstatic. I wish nothing but the worst for this fan base. These guys have been on the frontline for years now demanding that the Premier League do something about Manchester City kicking everyone’s ass for years by making up some bogus rule violations and attempt to get City relegated from the league. They were writing our funeral for months. But you know what is the crazy part? Manchester United are closer to being relegated than we are just based off of their performance in the league this season. And after City’s win in court last week, it looks like we will be beating those “115” charges. And when we do, it’ll be United’s funeral as they head down the path of relegation and embarrassment.
Leicester City- 0 v. Arsenal- 2
It took Arsenal 80 minutes to break down 19th place Leicester and finally put the ball in the net. If I could do it over again and not wake up early enough to watch this match, I would.
Manchester City- 4 v. Newcastle United- 0
Well, well, well. What did I tell you? For those that follow me on X, told you that this one would not be close after I saw City’s lineup. Quite frankly, this game was over before it even started. As soon as I saw the front four of Marmoush, Foden, Savinho with Haaland up top, I knew that Newcastle had no chance. City were dominate from the beginning when it came to possession and dictating the pace of play. Finishing the match with 62% possession, City really did not allow Newcastle to get anything going offensively. Newcastle finished the game with just one shot on target. Alexander Isak was stuck in Khusanov’s pocket the entire time that he was on the field. One shot on target and Manchester City kept a clean sheet. Incredible. Oh and please step aside, Mr. Penalty. There is a new Egyptian King in the Premier League. And this guy is not a penalty merchant. Omar Marmoush with a 14 minute, first half hat-trick. You love to see it. Rivals, it is time to retire the 007 memes. It’s getting old. And it belongs to Hojlund. Enough said.
Fulham- 2 v. Nottingham Forest- 1
Would you look at that. Another game I hit right on the nose. I indicated that I would not be surprised if Fulham won this game outright with the way that they have been playing. Perhaps Forest wasted a couple of goals routing Brighton 7-0 the other week. Fulham dominated Forest. 10 shots on goal, 56% ball possession and beat them on the scoresheet. That’s how you do it. Forest only had two shots on goal but Fulham couldn’t keep Chris Wood off the scoresheet. That would have been the icing on the cake for Fulham. Forest just simply could not create any sustainable time of possession that the big clubs use to break down other clubs. Forest may be stumbling a little bit and are probably coming back down to Earth. I will say that Fulham’s defense played very well and it would have been tough for any opponent to manage some scoring chances. Forest have a tough finish in the month of February with Newcastle and then Arsenal coming. Regardless, someone else will finish in the top four. It will not be Forest. Not until they are serious about their defense.
Aston Villa- 1 v. Ipswich Town- 1
All that I have to say for this game is that I hear by ban Aston Villa from any future EPL Unfiltered parlays for the rest of the season. Aston Villa had Ipswich down to 10 men from the 40th minute of the game. They were up a man and they then allow Ipswich to go up 1-0 in the 56th. And then eventually tie it up in the 69th. And it finished that way. This team had 72% possession and 25 shot attempts with only six on target. I mean, are we serious? These guys are in the Champions league knockout rounds? How do they live like this? I like how they are run at the board level, but they are not serious. They will not be in the Champions league next season. They won’t finish above 6th, book that. They will be just like Newcastle a season ago. Such a shame. Blacklisted sorry. Try again next season.
Liverpool- 2 v. Wolverhampton- 1
Wow this one was close. And it really shouldn’t have been. Somehow and someway Wolves managed to make this one somewhat of a game. It was 2-0 at half time after a Luis Diaz penis tap-in goal and a penalty merchant Salah goal in the 37th minute. Liverpool looked like they were going to cruise to another easy win by the time the halfway whistle blew. And it looked all said and done when Diogo Jota won a penalty early in the second half. But in a shocking turn of events, LiVARpool were turned away from their friends from above and the referees ruled that there was no contact with Jota in the box. It was actually Jota who initiated the contact. Rightfully so, no penalty and Wolves were off. Cunha scored a beautiful left footed curler in the 67th minute to really put some pressure on the league leaders. This guy Cunha will not be a Wolves player next season. Maybe Newcastle or Arsenal, but I don’t know. Wolves will be back in the Championship and then I can finally rest. No more bad man. Wolves are two points above Leicester and Ipswich in the relegation zone and I am confident Wolves will replace one of them in the bottom. Finally. It was pretty weird to see Wolves actually playing with the ball for a period of time late there against Liverpool. But their defense was up for it. LiVARpool strikes again. Seven points up on Aura FC for now.
Tottenham Hotspur- 1 v. Manchester United- 0
I just want to preface this by saying that I had a parlay on Sunday and all of the other legs were for sure locks. And all that I needed was for Spurs to win and there to be over 1.5 goal in the match. I had a feeling that it could be tough for United to score but I wasn’t sure. Ok, now that that is established, holy hell. I have been a Premier league and Manchester City fan since 2011 and I have never looked at a Manchester United lineup and genuinely felt bad for them. I have always hated them. Always. But this lineup plus bench that Amorim put out there today was shocking. The only senior player on the bench was Lindelof and these guys were forced to play with Casemiro and BOTH Zirkzee and Hojlund attempting to play striker. No Diallo for the rest of the season, no Ugarte not that he’s a good player at all but still, no Eriksen, no Leny Yoro, no Martinez the rest of the season, no Mainoo. Antony was shipped out to Spain and now he’s thriving. Their 27 year old star boy Rashford was shipped to Aston Villa on loan. They were cooked from the start. I would have mentioned Mason Mount and Luke Shaw but you’d have a better chance at hitting the lottery than them to play a game for Manchester United and not get hurt. Such a sad state of affairs for United when they are so so bad at football that they make Tottenham Hotspur look like a competent team. All Spurs needed was a early James Maddison goal to seal the deal. By the way, the United defense stood around like statues and let Maddison attack a loose ball near the six, uncontested! Truly shocking performance. United moves to 15th place after Everton beat Crystal Palace. 29 points from 25 matches. Give it up for the 24/25 Manchester United everyone. Also, UTDtrey was in attendance so the match was won for Spurs when he bought his ticket. Hold that wankers!
