Monday Morning Center Back: Week 26

Monday Morning Center Back: Week 26

Before we get into it, there is a whole new week coming up in the midweek and there are games running on Tuesday through Thursday for match week 27. So, I will be releasing EPL Unfiltered on Tuesday morning. That is if our fearless leader, Mr Emperor, wakes up early enough to hit the button. So, we will see.

Everton- 2 v. Manchester United- 2

I know that I was trolling when I said this was a thrilling fixture but it actually was. By the 10th minute of this game, it was very clear that Everton were going to be the better team. Manchester United came out there and just looked more lost than Mykhailo Mudryk. Seriously. Where the hell is that guy? It took Everton 19 minutes to break down that other team’s garbage back line and their main man Beto opened up the scoring. United were really lucky to just be down 2-0 at halftime because it should have been more. Everton looked like they were up for it on Saturday. It’s just something about David Moyes that gets the most out of his teams. Yada yada yada, United score two magically and tie it up. But at the end of the game. In stoppage time. Everton are in an attack, shot on target with the rebound up for grabs. Ashley Young very clearly gets pulled down to the ground by both Harry McGuire and De Ligt. Guess what? No penalty. Even after a VAR check. And to make it even better, they only show the worst angle possible. Corruption. The league doesn’t want United any lower than they are. I feel for Everton.

Ipswich Town- 1 v. Tottenham Hotspur- 4

You had us in the first half, Ipswich. Also, are Spurs back? Just in time to face City?

Arsenal-0 v. West Ham United- 1

Phase 6 Arteta. Corner FC. Aura FC. Bottle FC. Where have we seen this story before? Oh yeah. The last two year and this one is going to be the third year in a row that this club finishes in second place. The fanbase is so far gone and beyond saving after everything that Arteta has done to them. This guy has had this fan base literally wrapped so far around his finger that they will literally defend a rapist and celebrate other team’s injuries in the name of Arsenal. What happened to having some integrity and respect? When Haaland said stay humble, this is what he meant. That blatant red card for MLS while his team is down is the outcome. Score at the Etihad and mimic Haaland’s celebration? This is what he meant. But he’s just a young guy. Humble isn’t in his vocabulary yet. By the way, Jarrod Bowen is probably the best attacking player in the Premier league to never play for a big six side. I’ll stand by that. 50 goals and 38 assists in 188 appearances for West Ham. What more could you ask for from a guy that was literally playing in non-league before moving to Hull City and then West Ham United. Pretty crazy if you ask me. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Hammers.

Aston Villa- 2 v. Chelsea- 1

Battle of the mid. And the final answer that people have been waiting to find out the answer to is that Chelsea are the more mid team. Case closed. These guys have a million senior squad players and none of them are good enough to juggle the very long season playing in multiple competitions. I mean, Chelsea scored within the first ten minutes of the game and then that was it. The attacking threat was very minimal and with the attacks that they did have, they were pretty much asking for Villa to hit them back on the counter attack. All of Chelsea’s big name players were pretty much ghosts in the second half of this game. The one notable thing that completely flipped this game was when Villa brought on Rashford at half. After that, it was his game. This guy totally took the game over. He came on and assisted Asensio’s equalizer in the 57th and then again he assists Asensio for the winner in the 89th. The two loan players flipped this game in Villa’s favor. Bad new for Villa, they are now one game ahead of Chelsea but they are still behind them by a point, 7th and 8th place. We will see how these two shake up for the rest of the season as they fight for the European competition places.

Newcastle United- 4 v. Nottingham Forest- 3

Well. What can I say? When you know, you know. I told you that Newcastle needed this one bad. I really just know that the top 4 in the league is going to finish Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Newcastle. That’s the script. Forest opened up this game’s scoring but then after that it just opened the flood gates for Newcastle. Every time I looked up at the tv, Newcastle was putting the ball in the back of the net. Isak was just really flying with two goals in a minute. It was 4-1 at half, Newcastle were defending well to close out the half and it seemed to be smooth sailing. And then Forest struck back to make it 4-2 in the 63rd. And then nothing again. Callum Wilson was brought on after his long awaited return from injury in the 87th minute for Isak. Stoppage time came and just like that, the third Forest goal hit the net. Wilson had so many chances to put the game to bed with a couple of 1v1s but couldn’t get a shot away in at least four opportunities. Luckily for Newcastle, their defense stood for the late surge from Forest and they were deserving in the end. Newcastle move to 5th place, level on points with City and only separated by goal differential. The two teams are now both three points back of Forest. That will not last.

Manchester City- v. Liverpool- 2

City-pool classic.
