EPL Unfiltered: Week 29

Now that Liverpool’s treble dreams are over, let’s get back to reality. They are only going to win the Premier League this season and maybe the Carabao Cup. What went from an incredible first season for Arne Slot has turned into just a runaway league title. Perhaps the most useless first place finish in Champions league group phase history? I believe so. Penalty merchant couldn’t save them this time. How bad is Darwin Nunez? We got four games on at 11:00 this Saturday and one late game. We ride.

Manchester City v. Brighton & Hove Albion | 11:00am EST

What a great opponent for Manchester City to face next after an embarrassing loss to Forest last weekend. Brighton, who sit 7th in the league and one point behind City, have not lost in the league since February when they got shook down by Forest by seven. Very nice! What a time to be alive. The reverse fixture this season ended in a home win for Brighton by a score of 3-1. I’ll be damned if Pep Guardiola allows Brighton to complete the double over us. This is a must win game for City. With a win, City can jump into fourth place for the night and stay there as long as Chelsea do not win on Sunday. Newcastle play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final this weekend so City will be safe from the Magpies with weekend. I am expecting a Pep masterclass at home and a safe three points to the Cityzens. If Kevin doesn’t start, I will cause a riot. You have been warned.

Ipswich Town v. Nottingham Forest | 11:00am EST

Ipswich Town try to look competent challenge level: Super team Forest at home. Let’s maybe try to get some points this game?

Everton v. West Ham United | 11:00am EST

One of the true battles of mid is set to take place this weekend and bless us with some horrendous football. These teams are staples in the Premier League and for some odd reason, they do not operate like it. These are two teams that you think about after you think of the “big six” in the league. If someone says that they do not, they are lying. This is a matchup between 15th and 16th, level on 33 points. Both of these two are out of the running for any European tournaments next season so these guys will be playing for pride. With 10 games left, they both sit exactly ten points above Wolves, which should be enough of a gap to go along peacefully the rest of the way out. Maybe. It doesn’t look like I’ll get my wish of Wolves being relegated but these two need to widen the gap from Wolves so a draw here will be fine. Both teams employe decent players but significantly underperformed this season. Not much else to say. Take the under.

AFC Bournemouth v. Brentford | 1:30pm EST

Bournemouth seem to be running out of energy at the moment. They had a really good run at a top four finish but I do not think it’ll happen this season. One win in their last five is not ideal for a team that was in third just a few weeks ago. Now they’re 9th in the table and falling. Just two points ahead of Fulham now and three points behind City in 5th, this one may be a must win for the Cherries. Brentford continue their mid season, coming in at 11-5-12 on the season and they are a bad watch. They should be wining more but their defense is just not there this season. To be fair, they lost Ivan Toney and they had no true replacement. They’ll go again next season. Give me Bournemouth.

Arsenal v. Chelsea | 9:30am EST

Aura FC, Corner FC, Phase Six Arteta ball FC meets the 40 man roster. What a nice little treat for us Sunday morning to wake up to. This one should be great. A good battle between the 2nd place team and 4th place team. Only six points separate the two, which is surprising given the fact that Arsenal have so many victories this season. They have so many wins that when they draw they still win. How do they do it? Many Arsenal fans have thrown in the towel on this season and they have already accepted their fate as the runners up for a third year in a row. They sit 15 points back but have a game in hand on Liverpool so they have 10 games to really give it their all. Now, it is a five match swing and I cannot see Liverpool losing five of their next nine so that’s out the window. Second again I’m afraid. LOL. Forest, City, Chelsea and Newcastle are all still possible runners up so they could use all the points that they could get. Chelsea on the other hand, need the points. Safe to say that this one will a thriller. I expect a lot of back and forth. And I am expecting goals. Goals, goals, goals. I hope they both find a way to lose.

Leicester City v. Manchester United | 3:00pm EST

Leicester are in a world of hurt at the moment. And rightfully so. No wins in their last five and there is no hope in sight. I feel like they have accepted relegation at this point with Southampton and they’ll go hand and hand back down together, the same way that they came up. Just depends on who is going with them. 56 year old Jamie Vardy cannot carry you to safety in this league. It’s not 2016 any more. They will need a rebuild next year to challenge for promotion again. They always play United pretty well but I don’t think that will be the case this time. United are flying after their big win in the Europa league this week so I expect a similar result. Maybe Hojlund will finally score. Doubt it. United will win big, by 4 minimum. Sorry, Ruud. Those boys are going down.
