EPL Unfiltered: Week 37

EPL Unfiltered: Week 37

Let’s start this one off by recapping the two Friday games. Aston Villa played Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea hosted Manchester United. If you have been paying attention to even the slightest bit of this entertaining season, you could make an easy assumption about the two outcomes of these games. Carry on.

Everton v. Southampton | 7:00am EST

Believe it or not, one of the Saints’ two wins this season was against Everton. Is that the most Everton statement you’ve have read? It is truly remarkable how Everton are not right down there with Southampton but that’s the game. It goes to show you how many episodes each season has and all of the twists that come with them. Currently, Everton sit in 13th place in the table and that is the highest that they can finish with Palace being seven points ahead with two to play. So that is it for Everton. Taking Friday’s results into consideration, the lowest Everton can now finish is 16th. But many things would need to happen. Realistically, United is not going to beat Villa by seven goal next week, so the lowest they could finish is 15th. Which would not be as bad as it should have been. It is time to sign a reliable striker with a supporting cast of attackers in the summer. New stadium and the vibes will be high, bring them in. 2-0 Everton.

West Ham United v. Nottingham Forest | 9:15am EST

There is no team more desperate for a win more this weekend than Nottingham Forest. They were cruising all season long within the top four and recently they have been coming back down to reality. Their fall happened a little bit later than I called Bournemouth’s, but it was inevitable. With a win, Forest will be level on points with City. The problem is that City plays in the FA cup final on Saturday and then play their week 37 match on Tuesday against Bournemouth. So, 7th place is looking like the most likely outcome for Forest since City will still be ahead on goal differential and will claim the Europa league spot if the teams ahead of them win out. But Forest can keep the pressure on the teams ahead of them with a win. Worst case scenario Forest will end the season in 7th, which is still the premier league’s conference league this season. A couple club players for West Ham will be leaving the club after this season so this will be their last home game for them. So there may be a possibility that West Ham come to play for this one. Forest did beat the Hammers 3-0 in the reverse fixture so Forest will be desperate in this one. If you live in the U.S. and have cable, this one will be showed on USA network nationally and I would recommend tuning in for this one. There is a lot on the line here and it should live up to the hype. It will be in the weekly parlay.

Brentford v. Fulham | 10:00am EST

This match right here is a true top ten battle. Fulham are on the outside looking in and Brentford are in eighth. From eighth to 12th, they are separated by six points. I really want both of these clubs to be good. Brentford are in a weird spot. They are at the highest position that they could finish. It is their last home game of the season and there are many rumors surrounding their main man Bryan Mbuemo. He could be on the out list this summer. He’s having a great season and there are many clubs that will be interested in bringing him in for next season. These Brentford Bees have been playing pretty well. 4-1-0 in their last five and in comparison to Fulham, 1-0-4. Not so good. Recency bias tells you to back the Bees but Fulham did win this one in November, 2-1. Top ten is at stake for this one so I am just going to sit back and take the over. Both teams have differentials that are not that high, which means that they can get the goals but they allow just about the same amount. Smells like an over, tastes like an over, it probably is an over. Thank me later.

Arsenal v. Newcastle United | 11:30am EST

Sunday’s main event. For mutuals this one could be awesome. This one is the battle for second place. Realistically, the winner of this one will finish second. But seeing it from my perspective as a City fan, a draw would be best case scenario. If a draw happens, City will need a win on Tuesday to smack themselves right in between them in third. Arsenal are on 68 points and Newcastle are on 66. I am torn on what outcome I would like in this one. A draw will give City some breathing room for the final week of the season to secure a champions league place for next season. But there is something about an Arsenal loss and Newcastle claiming second that would just send football twitter into a banter zone for weeks. Both teams have cupcake matchups for the final day so the time to create separation is now. An Arsenal ass-kicking would be exactly what the world needs. I need it. I want it. Count your days Corner Fc, your manager’s days are numbered. If he goes crashing out of the champions league next season (if they qualify), he will be gone before the new year. Pray Isak doesn’t find the back of the net because if he does, this has the potential to be a womping. At the emirates.

Manchester City v. Bournemouth | 3:00pm EST

Haaland back, Stones back, Ake back and this will be Kevin De Bruyne’s last home game for Manchester City. It is the end of an era. Pure dominance and utter greatness for the last ten years. May as well be the best 55 million ever spent. Back to Bournemouth. They are done. Season over. They had a good run. European competition next season looked more and more likely but the second half of the season hit and their magic had run out. Now sitting in tenth on 53 points, they cannot sneak into a spot now. The highest outcome for them is eighth. It was a tremendous season and the boys should be proud of their performances. They just need to do some big spending this summer with Kerkez and Huijsen definitely leaving. So this summer would be a great opportunity to bring in some solid players at the back and make some runs in domestic competitions and in the league next season. One of the top seven teams will fall off next season and I think Bournemouth could be a likely successor for European competition the season after next. Remain the course. CITEH CITEH CITEH!
