EPL Unfiltered: Week 24

EPL Unfiltered: Week 24

We had a half decent week last week. City took care of business, Bournemouth dropped their balls on Forest, an Everton shocker, and a rare United win. Nonetheless, it was football. We are ready to welcome this slate that the football gods have graced us with. And I am prepared to crush the hopes and dreams of any Spurs or Wolves supporter that comes across this. Here we go. Business as usual. Six Saturday kick-offs, Three Sunday, and a London Derby to tuck us in on Monday to put a wrap on match week 24. We ride.

Nottingham Forest v. Brighton & Hove Albion | 7:30am EST

How are you feeling, Forest? Did it hurt? How shocking was that result last weekend? The Cherries put on a scoring clinic last weekend and it was quite impressive. But what was even more impressive was the fact that Forest refused to adjust during the game. The defense were cooked. I have never seen a group of guys more lost on a football pitch. Surely now that Forest are in prime position to complete for top four, they will begin a squad depth evaluation and bring in some world class players besides Chris Wood, right? Crickets. These guys are content with the guys that have. But if it was my club, I would be extremely nervous about that defense. Luckily for Forest, they face a team that managed one shot on target last week against Everton. I am officially out on Brighton. They stink. That’s the facts. 8-10-5 on the season so far, their attack stinks, their midfield stinks, and I am opting out. Forest will bounce back. Chris Wood brace.

Bournemouth v. Liverpool | 10:00am EST

This game right here should have been flexed to the late slate. How this game is not a standalone match is crazy to me. I mean, no one expected Bournemouth to be doing what they’re doing but. There should be some flexing in this league like the NFL does. Why not? Anyway. This game will be must watch tv on Saturday morning. Both teams have explosive attacks and look like that they could score with every shot. Liverpool have the best defense when it comes to goals allowed this season and I think the Cherries will struggle breaking them down. Liverpool are experienced when it comes to maintaining form in the middle of a title run and I think they will be cautious getting caught in transition. They seem to be great at that. It will be difficult for Bournemouth with their inexperienced squad when it comes to high level form longevity, and I just think Liverpool are better. But I would love to be proven wrong here. Prove me wrong.

Newcastle United v. Fulham | 10:00am EST

Newcastle got punched in the mouth early last week after rock bottom Southampton went up 1-0 after 10 minutes. But then it was all down hill for the Saints after that. Isak remembered that he could score and put two pasted them in four minutes. And then Newcastle was on cruise control from there. Finishing with a 3-1 win, Newcastle are on level points with Manchester City with 41. But Fulham have looked decent. It took a deflected shot from Lisandro Martinez in the 78th minute for United to beat Fulham last week. Fulham were in it until the end. And I expect them to put up the same fight in this match as well. But the St. James’ Park faithful will probably be up and are more than willing to will their side to see the match through on top. Try to stop Isak, Fulham.

Wolverhampton v. Aston Villa | 12:30pm EST

Hey now Villa. Hey big dog. Jhon Duran to Saudi for $70+ million? Woah. Yeah that’s what I like to see. That is how the big dogs do business. And now I am seeing links for Disasi, Felix, and Cunha. Wow. This is how big clubs operate. They clearly received an offer that they could not refuse and now they can make their squad strong for a top four and Champions league knockout push in this half of the season. And look at this gift of a match they have been handed this weekend. Go on Villa. 4-1 minimum.

Brentford v. Tottenham Hotspur | 9:00am EST

When I tell you that the Bees are going to have a field day with this Spurs defense on Sunday, you better believe it. Spurs played in the Europa League on Thursday against Elfsborg. In this match, their center backs, Van de Ven and Dragusin were both subbed off. Now, Van de Ven was probably only going to play the 45 that he did since Spurs were going to qualify regardless of the result of the match. But Dragusin was subbed off with an injury after coming on for Van de Ven at halftime. When I see this Spurs line up on Sunday, I guarantee there will be no natural center back in the eleven. Brentford is going to score within the first ten minutes and it wont stop there. Spurs could only hope to be down by three at half. I am giving Spurs a 10% chance of winning this match.

Arsenal v. Manchester City | 11:30am EST

The main meal for the weekend. Shocking that it has to include Manchester City again. This match kicks off a gigantic run of games for the boys in blue. Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, and then Spurs. That’s February. Forest are after in March. This is it. This run is going to tell you how the rest of the season will go. If City can jump Arsenal to challenge the favorites, Liverpool, for the title or will it just be a go to secure top four. This is the start. If you remember, this game ended in a draw at the Ettihad on 2-2 after a 98th minute equalizer from John Stones. Yes, that was this season. Believe it or not. This game will not be similar. It will be low scoring. Probably 1-0 or 1-1. That’s reality. Arsenal got lucky last week against the worst team in the league but this is a different beast. The weakened giant is beginning to remind everyone why you should not doubt them. I’ll follow you everywhere.
