Course Preview

“Opened in 2023, Old Bridge Golf Club at Rose-Lambertson—better known as The Rose—is New Jersey’s first new public golf course in more than two decades. The par-71 layout stretches to roughly 6,500 yards and features wide, links-style fairways, strategically placed wetlands and ponds, and several risk-reward holes that can quickly change the course of a tournament.” via. Key Storylines

The Rookie Class Arrives

While the spotlight will naturally fall on former champions Logan and Lambo, one of the biggest stories at The Rose is the arrival of an unusually large rookie class.

Seven players will be making their RRGA Major debuts:

  • Andrew Magee
  • Collin Cunningham
  • Chris Cassese
  • Ian Cesareo
  • Jack Hynes
  • Kyle Davey
  • Thomas Convery*

*Convery appeared in last season’s July 4th Signature Event, but this marks his first appearance in an RRGA Major Championship.

This rookie group accounts for more than one-third of the field and could dramatically reshape the RRGA landscape.

The Champions’ Corner

This year’s Invitational Major features 2 RRGA Major Champions

Lambo enters The Rose as the most accomplished player in the field from a major-winning standpoint. His victory at the ReRack Open in 2024 at Pebble Creek remains one of the defining performances in recent RRGA history. While others have posted lower handicaps, Lambo owns something nobody can handicap: proof that he can finish the job on Sunday.

Logan answered with a statement of his own last season, capturing the ReRack Invitational at Spring Meadow. His résumé now includes a major title and a reputation for elevating his game when the stakes rise. When pressure mounts on the back nine, experience matters—and Logan has more of it than almost anyone in the field.

Can Fitz Finally Get the Job Done?

Matthew Fitzsimmons enters The Rose as the tournament favorite, but with that status comes immense pressure. While Fitz broke through with a victory at last year’s July 4th Signature Event, major championships have remained elusive despite multiple opportunities. With no former major winner entering in peak form and the field lacking a dominant favorite, many believe this is the best chance yet for Fitz to finally add a major title to his résumé.

Dark Horses: The Trio Lurking Behind the Favorites

While much of the attention entering The Rose has centered around Matthew Fitzsimmons, Chris Cassese, Logan, Collin Cunningham, and Lambo, three names continue to stand out as dangerous dark horse candidates: Woody, Smith, and Dupont.

No player embodies volatility quite like Dupont. Just one year ago, he posted what many consider the worst performance in RRGA history during the May Signature Event, appearing completely out of contention from the start. Yet only months later, he responded with a stunning turnaround, finishing inside the top five at the ReRack Open. Armed with one of the longest drives in the field, Dupont possesses the type of power that can overwhelm a course if he finds any consistency.

Smith enters with perhaps the steadiest profile of the three. Smith quietly put together a top-five finish at last year’s ReRack Open and has consistently shown an ability to hang around the leaderboard. His greatest weapon remains his putter. When Smith gets rolling on the greens, he can erase mistakes quickly and pile up pars and birdies that frustrate more talented ball strikers.

Then there is Woody, whose motivation may be stronger than anyone in the field. Last season, Woody held the lead in this championship entering the final day before watching the tournament slip away. The collapse remains one of the defining moments of the 2025 season. Now he returns with an opportunity for redemption. If Woody can keep the driver in play, his iron game is among the strongest in the tournament, giving him every chance to finally finish what he started a year ago.

All three enter outside the top tier of contenders, but none should be overlooked. Whether it’s Dupont’s power, Smith’s putting, or Woody’s pursuit of redemption, each possesses the tools to turn Saturday into a career-defining victory.
