The Missing Piece(s)?

The Missing Piece(s)?

The offseason whispers continue to spread and apparently, the Raiders and Giants are interested in obtaining a certain quarterback.

Now most of you may think, “Wow, this makes great sense for those organizations. They could for sure use a new face of the franchise to lead the team for the next 10+ years if they find their guy”. Nope. These shit-show organizations are looking to trade for a 37 year old quarterback, Matthew Stafford. In the case that either of these teams were to obtain him, there is then talk of inking him to a 100 million dollar deal over a two year span. I guess they just let anyone become an NFL GM nowadays.

Off the rip it’s worth noting that Stafford is a proven, experienced, and winning quarterback. We all know his talent, and there is no doubt that the offense he leads will improve. He is notorious for playing favorites. If he goes to New York, draft Nabers in every fantasy league you have; the same goes for Vegas and Bowers. Unfortunately, both of these teams finding success with an approximate 2-3 year timetable will be a literal fantasy.

I want to go back to the original superteam development plan made by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (the greatest team ever). Before signing Brady, they had every void filled on the roster. The team would have been competitive without Brady but were still a QB away from being a true contender. I had thought the same could be said with Rodgers and the Jets, but the injury set him back way too much at the age he was.

When you look at both the Raiders and Giants, they’re much more than a QB away. They share one common thing in having a young star playmaker, but the voids will be too much for Stafford to overcome in just a 2-year hypothetical span. I don’t see the purpose of giving away assets and a large paycheck for a rental rather than drafting a quarterback or even giving a young and cheaper alternative like Fields another chance to prove it. The worst that can happen is that you suck again and get a high draft pick next year, building off the prior few years.

If I were a betting man (I am), I’d probably say that this is just a bunch of junk. I don’t think the Rams will let Stafford walk until Stafford himself decides to do so and retire. If only the Raiders, Giants, and every other QB-needy team could realize that the next GOAT is waiting to be selected in April. Jaxson Dart!
